When I received the R161 666 in cash from Engen The Making Of, I knew I had to use it strategically to create real and visible impact for my business, and I’m proud to say that’s exactly what I did. Sean Perry is a 100% black-owned South African company that develops and manufactures premium organic beauty and skincare products. SEAN PERRY differentiates itself from its competition by only using high quality and pure organic ingredients which do not cause skin irritation and allergies as well as being agile and flexible in its operation.
One of the boldest moves my company made was securing a billboard on Lynnwood Road, one of the busiest roads in Pretoria East. We paid six months upfront, and the visibility it brought us was unmatched. People started recognising the brand. The exposure did wonders for our credibility.
At the same time, we developed and launched an entirely new range of products — including massage oils, shower gels and a fresh fragrance. This expansion into the organic market gave us a whole new customer base to engage with.
We also secured our office space for six months upfront, giving us stability and room to grow without financial pressure. With part of the funds, we invested in branding materials such as gazebos, wall banners and other marketing tools that allowed us to show up professionally at every event or activation.
The ripple effect from Engen TMO was incredible. Because of our improved infrastructure and growing credibility, we were granted six new internship students by the government — all on 12-month contracts and fully paid for. These interns came from various universities across South Africa and brought in fresh energy and perspectives that helped push our operations to the next level.

All these changes have had a big impact on our turnover. While we’re still scaling, our monthly revenue has increased consistently since the Engen TMO journey began. We’re now better positioned than ever to attract funding and grow sustainably.
Since Engen TMO, the business has continued to evolve. We’re preparing to launch an exciting new skincare line, one that speaks to our values of quality, authenticity and care.
Looking back at the Engine TMO experience, I’ve taken away lessons that have reshaped how I operate — both as a person and a business leader. I’ve learned to stand firm in my vision and not to compromise on the values that built this business. Engen TMO taught me that it’s okay to make mistakes, in fact, they’re necessary. Each one shapes you, teaches you and prepares you to do better next time.
